Rev. Rashad Raymond Moore, Ph.D.

The Rev. Rashad Raymond Moore, Ph.D., is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Crown Heights in Brooklyn. A native of Bedford-Stuyvesant, he leads one of the borough’s historic Black congregations with a focus on tradition, justice, and intergenerational ministry. He holds degrees from Morehouse College, Union Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy and Education from Columbia University. Before Crown Heights, he served as assistant minister at Abyssinian Baptist Church under the Rev. Dr. Calvin O. Butts III. His writing has been published by the Huffington Post and Harvard Education Press, and he researches and writes on themes of memory, protest, and imagination in Black educational and religious life. He has served on the boards of Sheltering Arms, the UNCF Faith Initiative, and the Shawn Carter Foundation. Currently, his passion is organizing with East Brooklyn Congregations to address Brooklyn’s affordability crisis. Dr. Moore is distinguished by his ability to merge academic rigor, prophetic preaching, and grassroots organizing in service of Black institutions and collective hope.
