Rev. Dr. Timothy Adkins-Jones

Rev. Timothy Levi Adkins-Jones Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Homiletics at Boston University School of Theology and a leading voice in Black preaching, communal homiletics, and prophetic public witness. Ordained and shaped by more than twenty years of pastoral ministry, he has served congregations in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and for nearly a decade as Senior Pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey.

His scholarship explores Black preaching, preaching and protest, and congregational
participation in the sermon before, during, and after its proclamation. He is the author of Let the Church Say Amen! Practicing a Black Communal Homiletic (Fortress Press) and is completing Preaching and Protest: From Bloody Sunday to Hoodie Sunday.

Beyond the academy and pulpit, Rev. Dr. Adkins-Jones is deeply engaged in faith-rooted activism and public theology, serving as a trustee of the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice and Salvation and Social Justice. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and is the proud husband of Rev. Dr. Amey Victoria Adkins-Jones and father of Sofia, Ezekiel, Isabella, and Judah Nwà.
