
Rev. Tremayne M. Johnson, Ph.D., is Senior Pastor of Zion Baptist Church in Newport News, Virginia, and a member of the music faculty at Hampton University. A preacher, scholar, and musician shaped by the Black church tradition, his work explores worship, proclamation, and the formation of spiritually grounded communities. His research and ministry attend to the ways preaching and liturgical life cultivate liberation, hope, and communal transformation.
Johnson holds degrees from Fayetteville State University and Duke University and earned his doctorate from United Theological Seminary. Having entered pastoral ministry at a young age and served congregations across North Carolina and Virginia, he brings a commitment to holistic care, community partnership, and theological education. Through preaching, teaching, and musical leadership, he seeks to nurture congregations attentive to spiritual depth, cultural memory, and faithful public witness.
